By this point, if you haven’t played Skyrim (you should! – sorry) you’re in a minority consisting of those who know it exists, but have not acted on the information. That is, unless you’re Bethesda Community Manager Nick Breckon’s charming sixty-five-year-old mother. Breckon’s mother (hereby referred to as @SkyrimMom) is experiencing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the very first time.
How do we know this is happening? Well, her son had the good goddamn sense to make her a Twitter account and share every nugget of “mom-ism” that arose. Everything @SkyrimMom tweets is drenched in endearing, nostalgic memory. You might have had similar experiences when you were younger; they went something like this:
Mom: “What Nintendo game are you playing, sweetie?”
Me: “It’s not Nintendo. It’s a Sega Genesis.”
Mom: “Oh that’s nice. Why is your guy blue?”
Me: “He’s not a guy. He’s a hedgehog.”
Mom: “Hedgehogs aren’t blue, but that seems fun. What are you trying to do?”
Me: “Collect rings and stuff.”
Mom: “Well that’s nice. Don’t play too long.”
Bless them for at least trying to act interested. I’m also now suddenly aware that Sonic is indeed a “guy”. Well played, mother. Well played.
If you have a Twitter account, I highly recommend following @SkyrimMom regardless of whether or not you’ve actually played the game. She’s a treasure. Evidence below:
That’s right. Not just Skyrim but a Red Dead Redemption nod, as well? Follow at: https://twitter.com/SkyrimMom
