Nintendo announced that the 3DS had the most successful launch in any of the company’s consoles. It’s not really surprising considering the success of the DS consoles and the Wii in the last few years. What is surprising is the availability of the 3DS in retail.
On a recent trek to my favorite store, Target, to get various personables and toiletries, I decided to peruse the video game section and found that there were ten 3DS’s in stock just waiting to be bought. I didn’t end up dropping the $249 for the handheld, but it is nice to know that I will not have to go to extreme lengths and pay extreme prices on ebay to get one later on.
No official sales numbers have been released as of yet. Nintendo did make it known before the release of the 3DS that the company was making more of an effort, compared to the Wii launch, to provide a more sufficient supply of consoles to meet high demand. So for those who are thinking the 3DS must suck because it is still available 2 days after launch, that’s just Nintendo kicking ass at logistics.
